When working with a video file, you might sometimes need a shorter clip of the original video. For example, if you wish to simply export a scene, create highlights, post a clip to social media, etc.
NOTE: In order for you to share your subclip outside Media Pocket, you need to first create the clip and then Export (create an asset of the clip) before you can share it to social media or via Aspera for example.
Media Pocket has made subclip creation as simple as possible. Beneath every video asset you have this slider:
All you need to do is use your mouse to choose a start point and an end point (helps if your video is paused), name it and click "Create clip".
Protip: Keyboard shortcuts
You can also use keyboard commands to move as well as set in/out points for your clip.:
-
- K= play /pause
- L = go right 5 sec (step forward)
- J= go left 5sec (step back)
- I = start clip (input)
- O = end clip (output)
- Z = undo clip
NOTE: You need to have the player window inactive for the shortcuts to work. Simply click aside from the player window so it doesn't have a blue (selected) border.
Creating a clip first creates a "timestamp" of your selected clip:
See the start and end above? This will make it easier for you to have your clips under each asset. If you wish to export this clip however, you first need to render it.
RENDER A CLIP
In order to render a clip you simply need to click on the "Render" icon:
This will start the render process. Depending on the quality, bitrate and format of your clip, this can take anything from a few seconds up to several minutes (or longer). Usually, and working with short clips this is a rather quick process however.
Click order and this will start the process:
You can see the process status by hovering your mouse over the Render icon.
You can navigate away from the screen once you have started the process. You shall receive a notification once your clip is ready:
Once your clip is ready, you have three options:
Download, delete or export. If you wish to simply download your clip, you can download it. It will be in original format. Delete is delete. Export means that you can create a separate asset of your clip.
You can for instance create a project for all your fancy clips and keep them in one place. Happy clipping!
